Jane Kluis Pine Shrub

Soft texture in a compact evergreen form

Jane Kluis is a slow-growing dwarf evergreen with soft, blue-green needles and a naturally dense, rounded habit. Its fine texture and year-round color bring structure to foundation beds, rock gardens, mixed borders, and large containers without taking over nearby plants.

This compact shrub is easy to fit into smaller landscapes and requires little shaping to maintain its tidy form. Its slow growth, attractive needles, and adaptable branching also make it a good choice for bonsai.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a site with full sun and well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Dig a hole as deep as the root ball and about twice as wide, keeping the top of the root ball level with the surrounding soil. Avoid low areas where water collects.

2. Watering: Water deeply after planting and regularly during the first growing season. Once established, water when the top few inches of soil feel dry. Provide extra moisture during prolonged heat or drought, but do not leave the roots in soggy soil.

3. Pruning: Little pruning is needed. Remove damaged or unwanted branches in late winter, or lightly pinch new spring growth to encourage a denser shape. Avoid cutting back into old, needleless wood.

4. Fertilizing: Apply a slow-release fertilizer formulated for evergreens in early spring if growth is weak or soil is poor. Avoid overfertilizing, which can produce loose growth and reduce its naturally compact form.
