Striking white blooms for damp garden spaces

African iris forms neat clumps of upright, sword-like evergreen foliage, giving beds and borders structure throughout the year. Its white blooms are marked with bright yellow and blue accents for an eye-catching contrast.

Well suited to rain gardens, pond edges, and other consistently moist areas, African iris thrives in wet environments. It also works well in mass plantings or as a tidy accent, adding dependable greenery and periodic flowers without demanding extensive upkeep.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a location with full sun to partial shade and moist, well-draining soil. Dig a hole as deep as the root ball and about twice as wide, then plant at the same depth it was growing in its container.

2. Watering: Water deeply after planting and keep the soil consistently moist while roots become established. Mature plants tolerate brief dry periods but grow and bloom best with regular moisture, especially during hot weather.

3. Pruning: Remove faded flower stalks and yellow or damaged leaves as needed. Cut older foliage near the base rather than trimming leaf tips to maintain the plant’s clean, upright form.

4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in spring according to package directions. Avoid excessive feeding, which can encourage leafy growth at the expense of flowers.
